During our time together, we’ll dive into the multifaceted world of editing. We'll explore the distinct types of editing and how each one plays a role in producing a polished piece of writing.
- We’ll begin with developmental editing, the big-picture work that shapes the structure, flow, and purpose of a manuscript, and often includes book coaching sessions.
- I’ll touch on book doctoring — one of my personal favorites — and then move into content, or line editing, where a manuscript is refined for clarity, consistency, and impact.
- I’ll explain the precise, detail-oriented world of copyediting, which ensures that grammar, punctuation, and style are flawless.
- Lastly, I’ll talk about the critical importance of proofreading, the last line of defense against errors before publication.
No matter what kind of editing your manuscript requires, the goal of all editing is turning good writing into great writing. You’ll come away with a better understanding of why every author needs an editor.Â

Claudia Volkman has more than thirty-five years of experience in acquisitions, product development, editing, and typesetting, and has worked full-time for several trade publishing houses.
Now, as the owner of Creative Editorial Solutions, she assists publishers, authors, entrepreneurs, and speakers with their editorial needs.
Services include book coaching, developmental editing, book doctoring, copyediting, proofreading, and creating book interiors.
